Weather warmer but skiing still hot From Page 12 to the two already owned; and next year the majority of the runs will be lit up for night skiing. Booth says the amount of tuns that will-be lit up next season will depend on how much work is accomplished during the summer. Hours of operation have not yet been set, but Booth says when lit, the mountain will. probably be open until 1! p.m. About $1 million will have been injected into Cypress renovations after the lights are installed, Booth says, “which isn’t bad for the first - year of operation. We're try- ing to develop Cypress into one of the finer ski facilities in the Lower Mainiand.”* Booth says it’s too early to comment on the. mountain’s income, since the spring season is still in full swing. Mount Seymour’s new owner Earl Pletsch says he too was pleased with the season of skiing. No renovations have been made to the mountain this year, Pletsch says, but plans for next year include the elimination of rope tows, which will be replaced by chairlifts. Pletsch says the amount of skiers has risen this year, but rather than any peak period, the flow of patrons has been Steady. Monetarily, Pletsch says the mountain is holding its own. Grouse Mountain’s opera- tions manager Rick Temple says Grouse has experienced the best winter in about 15 years with skiing traffic up from last year by about 80 to 90 per cent. ific Williams d scribes Seymour NOP. upset — LYLE MacWILLIAM, MLA for Okanagan North met with North Van- couver/Seymour New Dem- ocrats on April 9 to describe his upset victory -in the. byelection last November. After coming out of receivership last fall, we just want to hold our own and get back on our feet.”* Temple said he could not comment on the overall fi- nancial picture at this time. Temple says the mountain is looking forward to a good summer, as it offers warm weather recreation as well, including beer gardens, helicopter rides, hiking, pony rides and an adventure playground.
