She dismisses these times
from her mind and while she
admits they were hard, she
says, “those years are gone
and I've survived and I'm
happily married now. My
kids are happily married and
I'm starting to get the recog-
nition in my pottery.”

Low back pain

An aching sacroiliac is a
common cause of low back
pain, but one that doctors
overlook in favour of other
diagnoses, says a team of
researchers from the
University of Saskatchewan.

The sacroiliac joint is a
firm, fibrous cartilage that
connects the tail bone 4o the
pelvic bones. ,

The researchers estimate
that 20 per cent of low back
pain arises from the
sacroilicac, and that another
20 per cent arises from this
joint together with some
other complicating con-
dition. However, they say
doctors tend to place most of
the blame for low back pain
on other conditions, such as
slipped discs and lesions of
the lower lumbar spine--

chiropractic manipulation

the research team are Dr.
Kirkaldy-Willis, director of
the low back pain clinic, Dr.
David Cassidy, a Saskatoon
chiroprator and graduate
student in surgery, and Dr.
Vaughan Bowen, formerly a
resident in orthopedic
surgery.
