Gun call THE WEST Vancouver Police responded to a man- with-a-gun call after they were contacted by 9 local taxi driver at 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 29. The driver told the police that he had seen five males with a handgun at the corner of Marine Drive and [5th Street. The police subsequently located the five suspects in a vehicle in the 1200-block of Marine Drive. The occupants were removed from the vehicle at gun- point by police. A cap gun was found in the vehicle. “When a man-with-a-gun call is received, we can only deal with the call as being a real gun. “Our goal in this type of call is to secure the scene and assure public safety,’’ said Const. Jamie. Gibson. ‘““We cannot over-emphasize the fact (hat 2 public place is not the location to play or show off a gun of any kind — toy or real.” Gibson said one of the suspects had an outstanding warrant for carrying a concealed firearm. Head-on crash A 39-YEAR-CLD West Vancouver man faces several charges following a head-on crash that occurred on the’ Lions Gate Bridge at 9:45 p.m. on Oct. 29. The suspect fied the scene after the accident, but was located by the West Vancouver Police about 10 minutes ater. The suspect has been charged with impaired driving, driving with a blood-alcohol level over .08 and criminal hit-and-run. ’. He is scheduled to appear in West Vancouver provin- cial court on Dec. 19. TV yan burns A VAN being used to remove scenery for Scapbox Pro- ductions’ Nerthwood television series was gutted by fire on Sunday, Oct. 24, at.3167 Baird Rd. in North Van- couver District. The fire started at approximately 7 p.m. at the back of the open van, a North Vancouver District Fire Services spokesman said. A portion of the carport adjacent to the Draycott _ Apartment was also burned in the incident. The cause of the fire had not been determined to press time. Filming for the series had been completed in the after- noon. A suite in the apartment had been used as a set for the series. No injuries were reported.
