Lonsdale’s, at the nor- thwest corner of 13th and Lonsdale, offers the ebb and flow of North Vancouver at every window, a place for longtime residents to sit back and watch countless familiar faces enroute to countless destinations: a place for newcomers f0 sit’ back and assess. at arm’s length, the Northside rabble. This corner, however, has not been kind to restaurants. Before Lonsdale’s, both the Cork and Vine and La Pari- sien have been sent packing. Lonsdaie’s co-owners, Neit Hendren and Bob George, are banking on third time being lucky. But, like the street itself, the battle is uphill alf the way. In addition ta the unaccountably poor culinary success rate of the location, Hendron and George are locked in mortal combet with January, February, and March, the three-headed bogeyman of the restaurant the peculiar North Shore trade. “Tanuary,”' says Hendren, “was a disaster.” However, a daily barrage of blackboard — specials, two for one entree specials, and drink specials (Friday night, Margaritas were $1.49) is helping the restaurant hold ils own in universally tough times. Lonsdale’s does not make futile aspiration to five-star dining. Again, as North Vancouver flowed by outside, we had no com- plaints. Dinner total came to $49, with our two for one entree coupon, $39. Lonsdale’s is open daily from 11:30 a.m. with Satur- day and Sunday brunch and everyday Junch and dinner specials. It is soon to be open for Sunday dinners. Underground parking is available.
