There is no question that students and parents want smailer classes, all other fac- tors being equal, students and parents also want a public system that recognizes quali- ty teaching, provides good support to ~ Wednesday, December 29, 1999 : MAIL Box: Class size debate not dead teachers, and responds to concerns. Tt is rue that West Vancouver does nor have class size in its contact, but [ get no complaints from parents about the struc- ture or quality of classes. In neighbouring North Vancouver, we have witnessed the restructuring of an elementary class on Nov. 1, and the need to resolve a grievance over 27 classes. These problems were triy- gered by the province-wide agreement, but the fact is that there is no flexibility in that agreement. North Vancouver had no opportunity to resolve the issues with its teacher employees. The debate over class size will continue, as will the need for local administrative control.
