IN our two previous
golf features we
explained the rules for
some of the more
popular games within
games that can be
played on the links.
Having already covered
ames like Nassau, Texas
Scramble, Skins, Sandy-
Chippie-Birdie and Don’t
Cry Wolf) we setded an
Schneider, Schneider and
Valk the Walk for chis issue.

Shneider, Scineider

This is a jacked-up game oF

KI"s (closest co the pin) tha

is probably called several
different names on several
different courses.

For some reason, someone

First things first, simple
KP's are contested on every
par three. The player closest
to the hole wins the KP but
he must be on the green
and, in) many players’
interpretation, he must two-
putt to claim the designated

Tf the first par three has-no
KP winner, some foursomes
like to carry the prize over
and double it for the next
par three.

OK, to Schneider. This
rnakes the KP’s more
interesting for two reasons.
First, it’s a team game and
second, the stakes can be
much higher.

It works like this. Partners
are designated and they

romain a team throughout
the round.

A designated amount is
made available for cach par
three Uet’s say a doflar from
each plaver, for sake of
argument}.

From there it’s a basic KP
on cach of them with iwo
eXCeptions.

The plaver who carns the
KP sphts the winnings with
his partner and if one team
sweeps all four KP’s (S83,
the total is automatically
pushed to $12. That creates
enormous pressure and
excitement on the anal par
three, should one team have
claimed the first three.

The downside of
Schneider is this: the gy. me
is Over as svON as cach tecm
has won one KP.

Walk The Walk

There are other names for
this game bur somehow,
someone in my playing cirele
began calling it Walking.

This is not a match-play
type of game but. rather
sumething that comes up on
every green and provides a
perfect forum tor those who
like to needle their buddies -
especially when it comes to
the pressure of putting.

It basically comes down ta
challenging a player, any
player at any time once he’s
on the green, to avoid the
three-putt.

Here’s how it works. If
one player feels another has
a good chance of three-
putting, he'll challenge him
or “walk” him. If the piayer
