A counter-culture fairytale by Sunshine Hesey nee upon a time, in the early “60s, ina land ar the edge of the world, a curious and impetuous vouth stole the wizards’ newest magic potion nght out of their Stantord laboratory. Just one drop of the clear liquid dissolved the evil wizards’ empirical curse thar had se Jong shackled the crazy force of lite. The vouth treeiv spread this miracle anongst his friends. Parents gaped in horror as their precious progeny aban- doned the safety of school, jobs, marriage, and bank accounts to discover a whole new wav of being. The youth, already a hero for writing the groundbreaking novel One Hew Over the Cuckou’s Nes, had the inspiration to vo ona great mission. He gathered all his fiends together and said, “Evervone gather your inscruments, put on your brightest colors and take @ seat on this magic bus called Farber. We shall set out across America to show the world what it means to be tree!” They become the Merry Pranksters and begin to wend their way across the country in their fan- tastically-colored bus, throwing great parties with potion for everyone. Nor fong after, the evii wizards, in their long white lab coats, rallied their armies, decreed the potion illegal contraband and ser out to capture the rencgade author before he and his triends broke the curse for the whole country. But the message that those Merry Pranksters delivered so long ago was destined to spread like wildfire. Now their children, weaned on psvchedelic music, kool-aid. and undergroune comic books, throw sparks and set minds atire with the same creative treedom that they experienced g growing up. The first chid came tron. an inspired union berween the heroic vuuth, who was known as the, Chict, and a beautiful raven-naired maiden known as Mountain Girl. The child was born under a full moon, ina hot Mexican town while the Chiet was hiding tram the law.
