JEROME Pathon is on the verge of the football
big time.

The Carson Graham graduate has been a Washington
Huskies standovr for the last two seasons and is likely 10 be

"selected during the first two rounds of the upcoming NFL draft.

Last Friday :.ght, he returned to his old stomping grounds to
address a Gordon Sturtridge League (GSI) banquet dinner at
the Squamish hecreation Centre.

The GSL is a North Shore-based organization for kids
between the ages of cight and 17. Among the listeners were
Reggie Brown and Frank Frazier, two of his GSL coaches. Both
believe Canadian kids hav.: a chance to play with their often larg-
er and faster cousins south of the border.

“A lot of Canadian kids are starting to see that with early

training they can compete,” said Brown.
-*_ As for co-coach Frazier, he should know exactly what it takes.
After attending the University of Miami, Frazier went on to
spend a year witli the NEL’s San Francisco 49ers before joining
the Oakland franchise in the now-defunct USFL. By 1987 he
caught on with the Washington Redskins, but was cur midway
through the season. Making his dismissal even more bitter a pill
to swallow for Frazier is the fact the same squad went on to win
the league’s holy grail — the Sier Bowl.

Frazier moved to North Van from his native Miami a short
while later and inas stayed ever since. His only involvement with
football now is coaching youth. “I enjov doing it ... especially
when you get a kid at this ievel and see him develop,” he said.
