Council to honor Lanskail

A CEREMONY is being held Fri-
day at 4:30 p.m. at the water
fountain near Dundarave pier to
recognize one of former West
Vancouver mayor Don Lanskail's
most popular achievements.

“We wish to commemorate his
work and inspiration in creating -

our much loved seawalk,’’ West
Vancouver Mayor Mark Sager
said at Monday night’s West Van-
couver District Council meeting.

A plaque will be unveiled at the
ceremony to recognize Lanskail's
contribution to establishing the
West Vancouver seawalk.

Lanskail came up with the idea
of building a seawalk along West
Vancouver’s waterfront and was
instrumental in getting the project
started.

After the first part of the walk
was opened in 1968 from 19th to
24th streets, the seawalk proved so
popular that subsequent councils
have continued to pursue a policy
of acquiring waterfront property
