32 - Wednesday, Febroary 22, 1989 ~ North Shore News Festival of Orchestras held in WV WEST VANCOUVER will be host to the inaugural Lower Mainland Festival of Orchestras on Feb. 28. The top string and full orchestras from Lower Mainland schools will meet together to present an exciting program of classical music including the works of Mozart, Vivaldi, Schubert, Brahms, Scarlatti, Beethoven, and many others. “Students who study orchestral music at the high school level are a very special group of people and deserve our full support and encouragement,” said lan Brown, director of instrumental music at West Vancouver high schoo!. ‘This festival will give our audience an opportunity to hear the accomplish- ments of our students and to be entertained with a performance of a very high calibre and of purely classical content.” The festival will feature orchestras, soloists, and smali ensembles from Sir Winston Churchill, Hand- sworth, Windsor, Sentinel and West Vancouver Sr. Secondary School. Tickets are $5 for adults, $2 for students and seniors. The performance begins at 7 p.m. in the West Vancouver high school theatre, 1750 Mathers Ave. Refreshments will be available throughout the evening and all lovers «f classical music are en- couraged to attend. Ktalian-born Bitelli was trained in the art of miniature on ivory at the Elisa Tosalli Art School in Turin, Italy. She moved on to a successful career in freelance il- lustration of books and maga- zines, and has studied the water- color techniques of North American artists. McDiarmid, a native of Van- couver, has drawn from his world teavels and has worked as a mechanical design artist. Today he paints full time, primarily fandscapes and still life. Peter, from Germany, trained in the visual arts at the Academy of Visual Arts in West Berlin. He was a former instructor at the Vancouver School of Art (now Emily Carr), where he now teaches in the design department.
