Woman survives five-car pile-up HEAVY RAINFALL and blustery weather mixed with driver error spelled near disaster for drivers on North Shore streets Monday. A Whistler woman miraculously escaped with her life following a five-car motor vehicle accident in- volving a head-on collision early Monday morning on the Squamish . Highway near Lions Bay. The driver of 2 north-bound van fost control of the vehicle just after 6 a.m. in heavy rain on a blind curve 100 metres north of Alberta By MICHAEL BECKER News Reporter The van veered across the centre line and collided with a south- bound car driven by Whistler resi- dent Gail Morr’son. “It happened on that dreadful corner just by Lions Bay,’’ Mor- rison said, who was on her way in- to town to Visit her parents. ‘I was 4 almost around the corner and the van caine for me: It just appeared out of nowhere.” The van smacked the front driver’s side of Morrison's Toyota Tercel wagon, ground alongside the car and then smashed into the car travelling behind her. Two other cars piled into the wreckage before it was all over. Morrison was trapped in her car, suffering a broken left leg and head abrasions. Lions Bay firefighters brought in the jaws of life to extricate Mor- rison, who says she feels lucky to be alive: ‘There are horseshoes there somewhere."” Morrison was rushed to Lions Gate Hospital by Lions Bay Pro- vincial Ambulance Service, and is now in good condition. There were no other injuries sustained in the accident by other drivers or pas- sengers. Squamish RCMP have charged the driver of the van under Section 149 (c) of the provincial Motor Vehicle Act for driving too fast for conditions. The charge cames with a three point penalty. Police have not released the name of the driver. Crews working on the closed section of highway construction along the route opened the high- way Monday afternoon to allow Morrison's husband to visit her at LGH. Two separate accidents yester- day on Low Level Road in North Vancouver caused approximately $10,000 damage to three vehicles and sent a Vancouver woman to LGH with abdominal injuries.
