Two weeks ago the North Shore News offices were evacuated when a _ plain package was delivered containing what looked like three sticks of dynamite, with labels addressed to editors attached to each. The bomb disposal squad discovered it was a cute way the PNE promoters had dreamed up to invite us toa press reception. Last week the bomb disposal boys were back over on this side of the water, checking for dynamite in Deep Cove Tuesday evening. Vickie Timmers answered the knock on her door at 4505 Cove Cliff Road at about 6 p.m. to be greeted by an RCMP officer who asked her to evacuate the house as it was believed there was a stick of dynamite in the public mailbox just outside her yard. Another stick had already been discovered placed in a EATON'S HOME IMPROVEMENT SERVICE yan nearby and the theory was that children had made off with some sticks used for dynamiting in construction work being carried on at a site behind the 4600 block Gallant and had dropped them off at various locations as a prank. However, the funny side was lost on Timmers, who thought it pretty sloppy that dynamite might have been left sufficiently unsecured that it was accessible to children. “This is a neighborhood full of litthe children and the situation was quite hair- raising,” she told the News. When the bomb disposal squad checked out the “dynamite”, it turned out to be another false alarm. This time, though, it was a deliberate hoax by someone who had got dynamite labeis left around from the blasting and wrapped them around grease tubes. “We had a pretty good idea it wasn’t the real stuff,” an RCMP spokesman commented, “but we didn’t want to take any chances.” Uni-stone AND EXPOSED AGGREGATE CONCRETE PAVERS Special on installations at this time Also stepping stones, planters, curbs, bicycle stands.
