Announcing the new concept, CP Air President Ian Gray explained that the airline has been aware of the increasingly-costly features of travel such as in-flight meals and airborne amenities, reservations, ticketing, ground handling and related expenses. “We have been planning this concept for a long period and feel the time has arrived to test our philosophy” said Mr. Gray. “We've calculated that we can operate a SkyBus service profitably by reducing our costs with a do-it-yourself, no frills flight utilizing the large and cfficient 417-seat Bocing 747.” “We will serve the total market,” he continued. “Our normal, first and economy service still will be available on other flights but the no- fuss SkyBus will be cx- clusively for travellers who want a fast, comfortable, non-stop flight from A to B.” SkyBus is dedicated to one price for all seats. It is expected that SkyBus will be expanded as demand grows. Passengers may check one piece of luggage free and normal carry-on bags will be permitted. Extra luggage will be carried. at regular excess baggage charges. The “back-pack set”. will have no difficulty checking their gear. Catching SkyBus will be as easy as the name imples — travellers simply go to the airport, buy. a_ distinctive ticket and follow’ the “SkyBus Stop” signs to the aircraft where they will walk on and fly across the con- tinent, However, one way or return tickets may be purchased in advance at any CP Air ticket office or airport counter. There will be no telephone reservations but purchase of the ticket ensures a seat on the designated flight since the ficket itself serves as a boarding pass in the sim- plified system devised for SkyBus. A flight will teave Toronto at 10:30 p.m. every Friday for Edmonton and every Saturday for Calgary. Eastbound the Edmonton- Toronto SkyBus will leave at 2:05 a.m. on Saturday, the Calgary-Toronto flight” at 2:05 a.m. Sunday. The castbound SkyBus to Toronto will leave Van- cotiver at 1:15 p.m... on Thursday and the Toronto- Vancouver flight will leave’ Toronto at 10 p.m. each Monday. Once ticketed a change of SkyBus flight date can be made only in advance of original departure date by paying a $20 service charge. There will be no refunds on unused tickets (just like the theater) but cancellation insurance is available. Travel agents will share in the innovative SkyBus. They may collect their normal commissions by issuing clients with SkyBus vouchers which the client then ex- changes at a CP Air ticket counter for the actual ticket- boarding pass.
