rapidly and strongly seeds.

The porous organic material
serves as a mulch to keep
seeds moist, yet will not cake
or crust.

Fill your containers early
and use them to sprout seeds
of frost hardy vegetables,
such as cabbage, lettuce, and
onions. Lay an old window
sash over the container to
hold in warmth; hold it down’
with bricks. Remove cover as
soon as seeds start to sprout.

Sprouting seeds in hot, dry
weather is easy. You can
fudge a little and start them
around a slow growing plant
of eggplant and pepper.
Before the big plant even

there, you will have trans-
planted them to other con-
tainers or to your garden.

in The Financial Post Mag-
azine. In fact, what is
generally touted to be a
cheap vacation may end up
costing you thousands of
dollars a year.

In a comovarison of financ-
ing and ‘operating costs,
FPM ‘‘purchased’’ a hypo-
thetical cottage and motor
home. In each case, a
$10,600 down payment was
made and the _ balance
financed over 15 years.
Operating costs (gasoline,
propane, hydro, taxes, in-
surance, and so on) were
calculated over a five-year
period.

Then, to get the actual net
cost of ownership, both
cottage and motor home
were ‘‘sold.’’ The cottage
was assumed to have app-
reciated a conservative 5 per
cent annually, while the
motor home held its value.

The cost? $5,262 annually
over those five years for the
cottage, while the motor
home was an even more
expensive proposition, at
$7,182 annually. Not a cheap
holiday by any stretch of the
imagination—unless, of
course, you’re regularly in
the habit of spending that
much on family vacations.

But if a cottage is not to
your fancy, if cost is no
problem and if a motor home
scems, well, just toa com-
mon, then how about a
helihome?
