Reform MP’s travel
bill hits $146,000

JOHN Reynolds racked up a travel
bill of $146,881 during the last fiscal
year, according to the Public
Accounts of Canada.

The Reform MP for West Vancouver-
Sunshine Coast said his travel expenses include
trips made in his role as the party’s Opposition
critic as well as transporiation between Ortawa
and the riding.

weekend and I also, in my other role as justice
critic, travel across Canada,” Reynolds said.

“If you go from Vancouver — to
Newfoundland, that’s a pretty expensive flight.”

By comparison, North Vancouver Reform
MP Ted White spent 393,868 berween April,

had the biggest travel bill of all 295 MPs at
$248,695.

“Dm less than a couple NDP guys in B.C.
It’s not even my full budget. My maximum is
$260,000. You get 64 tlights across Canada,
every year, Pm not anywhere near the maxi-
mum. I’m probably high enough because Pm
very active and very busy.”

Liberal Sen. Ray Perrault, a North
Vancouver resident, had $77,053 in travel
expenses. Sen. Ross Fitzpatrick, a Liberal sena-
tor from the Okanagan, had the serate’s biggest
bill with $113,784.

Senators and MPs are paid $66,125 a year.
White and Reynolds both had a $21,875.
expense allowance. Perrault registered a
$57,194 bill for research assistance, staff and
other expenses and $10,400 for expenses.

The Public Accounts are the annual report
by the federal government of its financial trans-
actions during the most recent fiscal year.
