Van lawn bowlers win B.C. championship SKIP PETER Fish and lead Mark Raymond are on a roll this sum- mer. By ELIZABETH COLLINGS News Reporter While most people were taking cover from the long weekend's rain this North Vancouver duo were busy winning the B.C. Pairs Championship at the Vancouver South Lawn Bowling Club. The win earns Fish, 42, and Raymond, 26, a berth in the Ca- nadian championships August 20- 24 in Edmonton where they will be representing B.C. “We won easily in the final,”’ said the confident skipper. The 22-11 final was conceded at 20 ends to Fish and Raymond. Fish said the semi-final game was the toughest match, when they were six down going into the final. “We were all nerves, but then we made some brilliant shots.”’ This pair's success is not a one- shot affair. In the Vancouver and Disttict Pairs held in June at the West Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club, Fish and Raymond came away winners, defeating North Vancouver clubmates Dave Brown and Jim Bolton, 25-8 with 20 ends conceded, Fish said he considered the win at the nine-day West Vancouver tournament a coup because Brown is a member of Team Canada. While Fish and Raymond were cleaning up in South Vazcouver on the long weekend, Brown and Robert Scullion, also from North Vancouver, were winging their way to Fiji to play for Canada in the Pacific Games. For Fish this will be the second Canadian championship — in 1987 he won a bronze, bowling in the singles category. ‘Now we’re go- ing for gold,"’ Fish said.
