Brent Olynyk and partner Brent Moody were defeated by the Danes in the second rcund after winning a first-round matchup against China. In mixed. doubles Olynyk and Robbyn Hermitage ~ were knocked out of contention after posting a first round loss to a German duo. There were other highlights in the last six months of the sports season besides the Olympics. Former North Shore Twin and Gibsons native Ryan Dempster, who marked a successful mid-season for the Florida Marlins by being nanied to the National League team for the 71st annual All-Star team. He joined big-time hurlers like Maddux, Glavine and Johnson in the dugout. Dempster, 23, finished up the season with some impressive personal numbers, going 13-10 with a 3.62 ERA over 226 innings of work, He finished 10th in the NL in ERA, fourth ir. Matthew Kerr of North Van qualified for the 33rd annual World Junior Golf Championships in San Diego July 7 after shooting a two-ronnc! total of 145 at the Predator Ridge Golf Course in Vernon.
