Silence in Golden Dear Editor: I wish to express a few words pertaining to the issue of noise pollution resulting from overhead flight paths on the North Shore and the plight of Mr. David Brown in West Vancouver (Nov. 6 News). Give me a break! Vancouver is an interna- tional city. Asa result of the great volume of travellers the skies are not as silent as they used to be. Are you going to launch a campaign against the noise of our emergency vehicles and public transit in retaliation for your hay- ing to raise yeur voice level or halt your discussion until they pass by? I suggest you learn to cope with the hus- tle of living in a big city. If nor move to Golden! Curt MacDonnel N. Vancouver Development needet Dear Editor: Why, in the North Vancouver District vote, was there no referendam question with regard to council’s dubi- ous decision on the Mountain and Cove Forest areas? 1 note in a recent Friday issue that one of the council candidates writes justifying his viewpoint with respect to this area. He is entitled to his views as are his colleagues from the Seymour area who are trying to swamp council and, we assume, ensure that there can be no further development in that area in the near future. The North Shore News may itself be in favor of block- ing or slowing down further development, but I would think that this paper should see, and comment upon, the danger of a group of almost ~ jf single-issue candidates taking over council. The current council was cowed by a very vocal group into rezoning the Mountain and Cove Forest areas from residential to park. However, council’s action deprived the whole district of the “benefits” from land sales while at the same time know- ingly incurring legal action from CMHC — (Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.) which the district is likely to lose. If the citizens of the Seymour area can convince the majority of district citizens that the CMHC. contract should be breached and that these lands snuuld be naade into park then that is democ- racy. However, no one is giving the rest of the district citizens an opportunity to discuss this issuc. If we have to have a ref- erendum on $26 million of improvements io the district should we not also have a ref- erendum on potential district losses that could very well exceed $26 million?
