Undoubtediy both the City and District of North Vancouver will be included in this cutback. As a homeowner and responsible adult, when I am notified in advance that my more money for new and unnecessary projects. T make cuts in my spend- ing. I repair existing posses- sions rather than buying new ones. T would hope that our North Shore municipalities will be as careful with ry money as Tam, and that they do not still plan to borrow $26,000,000 for new pro- jects. 1 will certainly not be vor- ing for the loan. I was enjoying a coffee and reading the paper in the Bread Garden when [ noticed two small children alone in an older red Toyota pickup. 4One of the children inthe pickup) was in an infant car seat and the other child looked to be around three years of age.) I could not see a parent or caretaker around amvwhere. 1 do not know how long they had been left alone when J first looked up, but could feel myself getting more and more uncomfortable as the minutes ticked away. Eight w 10 minutes later you came back to the pickup with a Starbucks coffee in your hand. P saw you smile lovingly at your children while getting intu your car. You obviously care for your children, I spoke to a policeman about this situation. He said it is net an offence to feave your chil- ur Kids dren alone in a car unless it is for an extended period of time. However, if something had hap- pened to your children while you were in Starbucks you would be charged. with child aban- donment. Sir, how would you have felt if you had come back to your car and someone had, heaven forbid, abducted one or both of your children, stolen the vehicle with your children still inside, your daugh- ter had somehow engaged the car into drive or any of the dozen or more horror stories T have heard and read in the papers over the years? It would devastate you and your family. Js it worth it to save yourself some inconve- nience? Parents, please think twice before leaving your children unattended in a car. Children are gifts to love and cherish. It will not be long before they are grown up and can care for themselves and wil no longer cause us the small inconveniences. Helena A.
