ONCE UPON a time I
admired the United States.
But that was then.

I still like Americans. But the
U.S. isn’t what it used to be and the
man who got the glad hand in
Ottawa personifies the decline.

Bill Clinton is probably the
worst president they have ever had.
Which is saying something. He is
also a hypocrite, a lecher, an alleged
coke-snorter, a draft dodger and
maybe even a criminal.

We won’t really know about the
last bit until he comes to trial,
which won't be until his term is up,
the courts having in effect granted
him presidential immunity on
charges people want to lay against
him.-

The press has protected him.
There have been puff pieces in the
New York Times and not much of
any consequence on TV, apast from
short shots by Rush Limbaugh.
‘That’s because most of the -
American media are left-wing
Democrats.

No such mercy was shown to
Rickard Nixon. Yet Watergate pales
in compatison with the scandals

- surrounding this guy.

My disillusion with America
does not spring entirely from
watching the hippy pair who now
run the White House.

It began when political correct-
ness and New Age lunacies took
over. Not that Canada has anything
to be smug about, but in the U.S.

What can you say of a country
that tries people twice on the same
charge, which is what Bush did
with those four policemen in the
Rodney King affair in order to
appease the Black and Hispanic
mobs?

And how about the re- election as
mayor of a hard-drug user in
Washington who did. six months in
the jug?

Barry, then celebrated his victory

dressed in the garb of Bongo-Bongo |

And now we have the O.J.
Simpson circus, in which, if “O.J."
is found guilty, the prosecution will
not ask for the death penalty.

Roberta Achtenburg, another
White House star and a lesbian,
wants the Boy Scouts to admit
homosexual scoutmasters.

God Bless America? Someone
needs to.

Then there’s Whitewater. It was
a real estate development in which
the Clintons were involved when he
was governor of Arkansas.

The claim is that they illegally
put federal funds into the trust com-
pany that financed it; also that some
of that federal money found its way
into Clinton’s election campaigns.

More will come out if the
Republicans force Congressional
hearings over Whitewater and over
claims that Arkansas was involved
in the laundering of drug money.

The Sunday Telegraph played all
this on its front page, and it is hard--
ly a tabloid smut sheet. _

There's more. Mysterious
deaths. Threatened assassinations. A
White House suicide that may not
be a suicide, and much else.

Small wonder that U.S. colum-
nist Joseph Sobran has said that
George III would be preferable to
the present U.S. government.
