8 - Sunday, July 12, 1992 - North Shore News In memory of Gary Nahanee Dear Editor: On July 3, 1992, Gary Nahanee of North Vancouver passed away at the age of 46. I'm writing this not only for him, but for the hundreds of friends he left behind. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing him has every right to grieve. Not only was he a family man to his family, but he was a family man to everyone else. Gary had the amazing ability to make everyone secure in who they were and to believe in themselves and the people around them. This is a quality that we see so seldom nowadays. My mind drifts back to those sunny summer days when the ice cream truck would pull up on the reserve. Gary, having spent many of his younger years in an or- . RCMP building ‘hopelessly Dear Editor: - Both North Vancouver City and District. councits should hang their heads in collective shame when it comes to the accommoda- tions for the RCMP. The present building located at 13th and St. Georges in North Vanceuver city is hopelessly inad- equate. It is far too small for its Present purpose and has been for many years. {t is overcrowded, cramped and poorly ventilated. lt is clearly in violation of the existing agreement between the councils and the RCMP under phanage, would buy all of the neighborhood kids ice cream. He saw in them the happiness he felt he had missed as a child. This I believe was the backbone to his life — an admiration for kids and friends alike. i could write 2,000 pages about Gary, but maybe some day some- one will write a book about this great man. Until such time we, your friends, and, more than anyone, your family, will miss you forever. The world will feel a lonely place without you in it. Everything that’s Good Everything that’s good is gold For everyone, or so we're told. Once in perhaps a million years Someone has touched us, We know this from our tears, which the employer, the councils, have to provide a decent working environment and minimum space requirements for the RCMP. Failure by both councils to five up to their responsibiiities has put an enormous strain on the force. ‘She situation is nothing short of scandaijous. The RCMP code of ethics would never allow them to com- plain publicly about the atrocious conditions they have to work under. But the system obviously is not working. Plans and drawings for a new The great man who hands the child a toy Deep inside the man a boy. Forever in our minds like the ticking of a clock in the deepest corners of our hearts A great friend that we have lost. A bridge over forever, this man has walked A bridge over forever, one we haven't crossed. Now forever above us he’ll look down and sprinkle his friendship around us . wherever it needs to be found. Dana Mennie North Vancouver inadequate’ building have been ready for some time and the site in the city selected. But all further action has stalled. The force is entitled to reason- able and adequate working condi- tions and facilities. It’s as simple as that. It is not exactly harmful for RCMP morale cither. That morale might come in handy when we expect them to put their lives on the line. Ernie Crist, Councilfor District of North Vancouver ee a ; oe” . 7 i -_ For the Times of Your Life.
