Registered Massage Therapist HANDSWORTH SCHOOL Grad class holds fashion show HANDSWORTH GRAD council will be stepping into uncharted ter- ritory March 8 when it puts on its first grad fashion show. By ELIZABETH COLLINGS News Reporter Using 45 students as models, Pre-Grad 90 will showcase fash- ions in dress, make-up and hair for this year’s grads. The show’s sponsors, ranging from local businesses in photography and jewelry to makeup, hair and for- mal wear, will have booths on hand for students and parents to browse the wares after the show. At first glance, the show may seem the regular commercial enterprise, but the difference lies in the involvement of ihe students. Working in conjunction with Kar! Robathan of La Scala Hair Design, the 10-member grad coun- cit at Handsworth are getting first-hand experience in the logistics of organizing a fashion show. “We've never worked with peo- ple outside the school at this kind of fevel,"’ said Chista Shahrokh, president of the grad council. Shahrokh said the council work- ed out a contract with Robathan after convincing Handsworth prin- cipal Ken Feyer that the show was a worthwhile venture. “It's a new thing and we had to prove that it was worthy to bring into the school,"' she said. The students are responsible for promoting the show and recruiting models and ushers as well as shar- ing ticket selling duties with Robathan. Robathan developed the concept of the show from what he sees as a need of the the fashion industry to actively recruit talent from the school and, conversely, to inform students of the opportunities available in the industry. **f think we need more people in the fashion industry. To give them some hands-on experience is great. For them to work with someone from the outside to put something on in the inside is great,’’ Robathan said. Shahrokh concurs that the stu- dents involved have a keen interest either in the fashion industry or in the business side of producing a show. After the bills are paid, all prof- its from the show will be donated to Handsworth. Shahrokh said the grad council is planning to use the Money to flower the cost of the grad night tickets at the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre. Tickets are available at Hand- sworth’s front office, {044 Edgewood Road, or at La Scala in Westview Shopping Certre. The tickets are for reserved seating and cost $10 for adults and $5 for stu- dents, The show starts at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 8. a= Get ready for summer Muscle Toning | 10-% hr. treatments tw Mech 3000 $9999 Bocywraps & Cellulite = = Treatments $45°° Cornplete Esthetic Services, Skin Care & Electrolysis _ Acrylic Nails | 138 E. 44th, North Van [ ISL MAo90-8701 A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE omen's Shoes: I ngledew’s announces the reopening of its Park Royal store, Thursday, March 1 at 9:30 a.m. For 75 years Ingledew’s have provided Van- couverites with excellence in the form of friendly professional service with che most A nd now in the con- tinuing tradition of Amalfi, Bruno Magli, Bandolino, excellence we are proud to Liz Claiborne, Grazia, Grenada, Jocelli, announce the opening of Charles Patou, Evan Picone, Rockport, our exciting new Park Royal Savallino, Sesto Meucci.
