Triathlete clinic held IF YOU'RE like most people and your New Year's resolution to get in shape dissolves faster than your Christmas waistline, the RecCentre Ron Andrews triathlon/biathlon clinic may be just the motivator you need. “It’s aimed at everybody from the beginner to people who've al- teady competed as triathletes,” says Trish Holme, the clinic’s coordinator. The three-day workshop kicks off Friday, Jan. 5 with a discus- sion on training techniques, pro- gram set-up, nutrition and weight training. Clinic feaders Carol Mona- tgomery and Paul Granger will also be on hand for a question and answer session. “That seems to be a thing at clinics — people like to have time to ask questions,’’ Holme says. Both world class triathletes, Montgomery and Granger are eminently qualified to advise on training programs. Montgomery has been named B.C.’s Triathlete of the Year after winning 16 first place finishes in 1989 and seventh at the World Championship. Granger won the World Police and Fire Games triathlon this summer, fourth overall in the Royal LePage Canadiau series and first in his age group at the World Championship. On Saturday the focus will be on the three events — cycling, swimming and running. Training methods, techniques, and equipment will be discussed and novices will be started on a pro- gram. Each session will be followed with a work-out. On Sunday, participants can choose two of the disciplines to work out in. This gives the par- ticipants a chance to be coached in the event. Other clinic leaders are David Fletcher and Judy Aspinall, who will Ge leading the swimming portion, Dean Milner and Bernie Duffy. All participants must wear ap- proved sufety equipment.
