Big, amiable Chet (John Candy)’ takes his family to a backwoods cabin where he plans to kick off his shoes and get in some quality bonding time with his two sons. The older boy prefers cruising the town where he quickly falls for a local waitress. As if this disruption isn’t enough, Chet’s thoroughly obnox- ious brother-in-law, Roman (Dan Aykroyd), has arrived uninvited with his annoying family. Under Roman’s leaden hand, simple hot dog barbecues become lobster tail spreads, and boatings turn into high-speed waterskiing episodes — all at Chet’s expense, of course. The continuous meddling drives “ Chet and his wife (Stephanie Faracy) around the twist, but their inherent niceness stops then from telling off their tormentors, until 90 almost-laughless minutes have passed.
