YMCA offers CPR cou rses | THE NORTH Shore YMCA’s spr- ing CPR courses are underway. During January and February, 326 people became -certified in Cardio Pulmonory Resuscitation | through the North Shore YMCA. _ One of the participants in a CPR class told of a situation where she used CPR. While vacationing on a lake in a remote area a man was near drowning. Once rescued, the person having a CPR certificate managed to get the unconscious man breathing. . CPR is a vital skill to have and to maintain, says the Y. The non-profit, foundation was established 25 years ago to provide funds for health care and research on the North Shore. The foundation is voluntcer operated in the community and is supported by a membership in ex- cess of 600 members. Support comes from donations, memberships and fund-raising ac- tivities. In 1986, the foundation received a first-of-a-kind grant from the National Health and North Shore News Development Program. The grant assists the development and im- plementation of practical research Projects carried out by physicians and other health professionals at LGH. The grant also provided money to hire a research consul- fant to help doctors do prac- tically-oriented research which will have community benefits.
