My wife and I, wide-eyed from a Robson Street tour, were impress- ed with both the restaurant's food and service. I began with back-to-back glasses of Jacob Demmer Riesling ($3.50), a refreshing featured German wine offered by the glass. From the evening’s special insert menu, we tested a Pumpkin and Marjoram Soup ($2.56) and a plate of Fresh Mussels ($6.50). Both openers were light and refreshing. My mussels came with bright green asparagus spears and were served beneath a creamy herb and white wine sauce. My wife’s main dish was Broiled Baby Side Ribs ($12.95) from ‘O’Doul’s regular menu. The ribs’ accompanying honey-garlic barbecue sauce was spiced with an interesting bite of cayenne pepper. Meal portion would have been more than adequate for . the average appetite. From the special menu, I chose a Pork Loin Steak ($11.95). The thick cut of meat was beautifully grilled and served with a savory pepper and garlic cream sauce that coaxed the best from the dish's meat. Both orders came with a colorfu! vegetable accompaniment of yellow bears, a whole carrot, zuc- chini slices and two boiled potatoes. For dessert, we indulged ourselves in an Apple and Cin- namon Brioche ($2.75) and an O’Doul’s Chocolate Terrine ($4.25). The terrine, a pure chocolate pate slab, came with a brilliant red raspberry puree that both con- trasted with the sweetness of the chocolate and added a flourish of red to the deep brown plate. Needless to say, I could only look on helplessly as my wife, chortling oddly to herself, devoured the dish between two deep breaths. My brioche included two good- sized slices of the bread-style pud- ding and was covered in a maple syrup sauce.
