Lottery Fund for the society’s new Boston Whaler lifeboat. By MICHAEL BECKER News Reporter According to BCLS crew member and fundraiser Peter Howard-Jones, the grant presented to the sea rescue society by house Speaker John Reynolds at his con- stituency office in West Van- couver, represents the first gov- ernment assistance received by the society since it formed in 1981. “This grant is the first nickel we've had from any government agency,”’ said Howard-Jones. The BCLS applied for the grant May 15, 1986, to assist with the purchase of a new $35,000 life- boat and equipment stationed at Fisherman’s Cove in West Van- couver, According to Howard-Jones, B.C. Lottery grant rules allow for a maximum of 50 per cent funding for any given project applied for. “The rest was raised through a generous grant from the North Vancouver Kiwanis Foundation and various donations from vided by M&P Mercury Sales Ltd. replaces a 17-foot Boston Whaler previously operated by the society, which now is rua out of Gibsons. Specialized ‘escue equipment on board the new craft includes a custom towing bar, radio direction finding equipment, two VHF tadios, a CB radio, searchlights and first-aid equipment.
