More motorists using self-serve A MAJORITY of Canadian motorists purchase between 75 and 100 per cent of their motor fuel at self-serve stations, according to in- formation drawn from the Cana- dian Automobile Association's Vehicle Durability Survey. The statistics, published in the association’s 1987 edition of the Used Car Buyer's Guide which was released recently, indicate that 57.3 per cent of the more than 18,000 survey respondents purchase 75 per cent or more of their motor fuel from self-serve stations. In comparison, only 18.9 per cent purchase all their fuel from full-service outlets. According to BCAA president Andrew Makin: The level of use of 28th year of service to tens of thousands of domestic & foreign car & light truck self-serve facilities reflects con. sumers’ growing frustration with the high gas prices and it is also a reflection of the lack of full-service facilities in many areas. But it raises several concerns with respect to motor vehicle maintenance. In their heyday, full-service sta- tions provided a valuable service to motorists. They checked automobiles as they were being fuelled to ensure that engines had proper amounts of oil, that fluids such as windshield washer were topped up and belts and hoses were in good condition. ‘*‘Today, motorists who patronize self-serve stations all too often forget to have their vehicles checked on a regular basis.’ 27 - Wednesday, February £1, 1987 - North Shore News NEWS photo Stuart Davis SENTINEL SCHOOL is getting ready to race.
