Thompson joined more than 700 others on the North Shore in a contest called Fitfest-Plus. Fitfest winners will be chosen next week, when the three-week contest ends. “The intent of the contest is to get people to do healthy activities that we hope they will continue,” said Thompson, who helped coor- dinate Fitfest on the North Shore. An activity, like flossing teeth for 15 minutes, would give 3 par- ticipant 5 points on his scorecard. The goal for each participant was to earn at least 45 points during the contest. Thompson said about 75 per cent of the participants are ex- pected to complete the contest. **} think it’s been very successful — I’ve learned what we need to do to challenge people already in a healthy lifestyle and to help motivate those who are not, to begin,’’ she said. Thompson said about 66 par- ticipants took part from her workplace at the North Shore Health Department. The other participants included about 300 Lions Gate Hospital employees, staff from Evergreen House, Cedarview Lodge Interme- diate Care Facility, Seycove Community Secondary School, PHYSICAL EXERCISE, such as skipping, was one of many ways Fit-fest par- ticipants could earn their 45 points.
