Vicki Lambert, an independent
distributor for Quorum [nterna-
tional Ltd., said the Family Safety
Net provides security and protec-
tion by monitoring a child’s
whereabouts and alerting parents
when the child moves out of
range.

She added that the
Safety Net includes a ‘parent
univ’ which can be used to
monitor up to three children and
which contacts each child every 18
seconds.

Lambert said if the parent unit
does not make contact with the
“child unit’’ it will beep and
flash, telling the parent which
child is out of range.

“The product also allows the
parent to call the child.

{f the chila is in range, the child
has two ways of contacting the
parent. The child can. either press
a caif bution, or a panic button,
which will set off an alarm.

has been providing private line
voice and data services in B.C. for
35 years. Westel will now lake
over more than 130 existing cus-
tomers across the province.

The renamed company is now
B.C.'s third facilities-based iong
distance carrier. That was made
possible by the Canadian Radio-
television Telecommunications
Commission's June 1992 ruling to
allow competition in the public
switched long, distance market,

Westel took over the staff and
assets of BC Rail’s commercial
telecommunications department in
April. It will expand its network
beyond the  railway-righi-of-way
and begin selling switched long
distance services in early 1994,
