22 - Friday, January 15, 1999 - North Shore News WELCOME TO THE ICE AGE At Ice Sports North Shore everyone is a win- ner. That’s because this privately operated ice sports complex has taxpayers seeing ‘green’ and North Shore skaters seeing more ice time. DOUBLE THE ICE FACILITIES “I am absolutely ecstatic,” says North Vancouver Minor Hockey's Dan Morrison, who says the new ice complex has literally doubled the number of full-size ice sheets in North Vancouver. “In recent years, adminis- tering our hockey program has been the equivalent of trying to fit ten gallons into a five gallon. pail,” says the association's presi- dent and life rnember. “Not only have we elim- inated our waiting list — North Van Minor Hockey has grown from 375 children a decade ago to almost 1,100 this year — but we have created many more opportunities for both Congratulations te ice Sports North Shore on your Grand Gpening! A MONEY-SAVING PARTNERSHIP The new complex is the result of a part- nership between Canlan Investment Corporation and The District of North Vancouver. While the District made land adjacent to the Ron Andrews Recreation Facility available, Canlan developed and constructed the new ice complex, virtually eliminating millions of dollars in municipal capital expenditures. And because the facili- ty is managed privately, hundreds of thou- sands of dollars a year are also being saved in operating costs, says Pat Doyle, Vice- President, Development of Canlan. “It’s a great way for the public and private sector to work cs-operatively with each other and make better use of their resources,” he says. “Our partnership was developed on business prin- cipies that made it a win-win situation for both Canlan and the Municipality, who are able to provide the lowest cost method of delivering rink facilities to the people of North Vancouver.” MGRE RECREATIONAL QPPORTUNITICS The Director of Recreation, North Vancouver Recreation Commission agrees. “The Municipality and the Recreation Commission saw a chance to expand the recreation Congratulations ice Spests on your Grand Opening! pS: — CORSTRUCTICK GCORPORANOGM Crees Contractions ancl Gades Sir, SNRB Proad to ie the General Centrector & Suiider of lee Sports Herth Shore. opportunities to the citizens of North Vancouver.
