NV fest coincides
with Tennis Week

The Fourth Annual
North Vancouver Tennis
Festival and Recreational
Tournament will be held
June 8 to 14 in conjunction
with the first-ever Canadian
Tennis Week.

The tournament is planned
especially for the recreational
player who is interested in an en-
joyable, low-pressure competitive
experience where there is an op-
portunity to meet new people and
test tennis skills.

. The festival part of the event
will include a talk by sports
psychologist and Canadian Davis
Cup consultant Dr. David Cox at

recCentre Delbrook Tuesday, June
9 on ‘The Inner Game.”

He wili discuss and provide in-
sights into mental preparation and
self-management in pressure situ-
ations. The fee for the evening is
$5 for those registered in the
tournament and $10 for the gen-
eral public.

There will also be a Fashion
and Equipment Show at Deibrook
on Wednesday, June 10 at 7 p.m.

The fashion show, an indoor

Tennis B.C. Talent ID Night for

Junior cricket clubs
impressive at tourney

THE NORTH Shore
Cricket Club entered three
under-15 teams and two
under-11 teams receritly in
the Junior Cricket  six-a-
side tournament held at
Brockton Oval in Stanley
Park.

The Under 11 ‘A’ Team of Mit-
suru Nakagawa, Rumi Jaffer,
David Collings, Ateef and Ejaaz
Meghji, and Sean Farrell advanc-
ed to the final where they were
narrowly -beaten by Fleming
School.

Of the three under-IS teams,
two advanced to the final. Teas:
‘A’ beat the favorites, St.
George’s School, in the semi-final
and ensured an_ ail-North-Shore
final.

Team ‘A’ of Jamil Jaffer, Arif
and Asif Bandeali, Ian Collings,
Danny Rankin and Al-Karim Ab-
dulla managed to beat Team ‘B’
made up of Pascal Cuk, Richard
Thorae, ‘James Burden, Faisal
Samnani, Justin Tottle and Salim
Dossa in an exciting match.

for fastpitch “B’ victory

won the ‘‘B’ category of
the North Delta Traditional
Fastpitch Tournament held

Facing Abbotsford in the final,
the Blues scored two runs in the
top of the seventh inning when
second baseman Gary Forgie pro-
vided a clutch two-out double,
driving in the winning run to
defeat Abbotsford 4-2.

The North Shore Softball
Association currently fields 27
teams, providing fastpitch softball
for boys aged six to 16 at both
recreational and competitive
levels.
