WHO IS Wayne Worm and why
has he got his own video, current-
ly showing at Science World?

Wayne is an electric guitar-
toting computer-animated charac-
ter from the Greater Vancouver
Regional District’s interactive
video kiosk called Compost Crit-
ters - Adventures in Composting,
currently ‘on long-term loan to
Science World as part of their
composting display.

The video, which teaches about
composting, . allows children to
skip around the segments and ask
particular questions — such as
what kind of ingredients to use
and how often to add materials to
acompost pile.

Wayne Worm lives in the com-
post pile with Millicent Miilipede,
Betty Bacteria and Sammy
Sowbug, three other Compost
Critters who help kids to under-
stand that composting can be an
important way to. reduce the
amount of garbage we send to
landfills each year.

Kitchen and yard waste current-
ly make up about one-third of the
residential waste stream in the
GVRD.

The video kiosk has been in-
stalled at Science World as part of
ike GVRD's October Recycle
Month, an annual promotion to
raise public awareness about solid
waste reduction.

Reduction of solid waste by
50% by the year 2000 is part of
the Creating Our Future program
of 54 initiatives to make this a
more livable region.
