INLENYS BRIEFS Two rescued from Horseshoe Bay TWO PEOPLE were plucked from Horseshoe Bay waters Sunday after the boat they were in got too close to a departing ferry. According to Horseshoe Bay harbor master William Lord, the incident occurred at about 2:50 p.m. at the Tyee Point entrance to the harbor. A 15-foot rental power boat containing at least six people stopped behind the Queen of New Westminster as it was backing out. Two of the power boaters panicked and jumped ship. The power boat was swept away from the ferry by a wave. The tiarbor master’s safety boast arrived on the scene and rescued the two who had jumped. Lord said there were no injuries. “*We try to keep people out of the way of the ferries. We're constantly chasing people ou: of there,”* he said. WV cyclist killed in road mishap A 51-YEAR-old West Vancouver cyclist died Sunday after suc- cumbing to injuries sustained Saturday afternoon when he was struck by a car in the 2300-block of Bellevue Avenue. According to a West Vancouver Police spokesman, Michael Lynott, of 1768 Argyle Ave., had been cycling with his friend Rita Williams, 49, when the couple pulled over to the side of the road to speak with Lynott’s 26-year-old dauglter, Frances. His daughter had stopped her truck at the side of the road and the two cyclists were by the vehicle when a passing casthound car struck them. Lynott suffered head and internal injuries and was admitted to Lions Gate Hospital in critical condition. Wiliams suffered lacerations and bruising. The parked truck sustained some minor damage. Charges are pending against the driver of the passing car, 55- year-old Ann Crippen of West Vancouver. |Armed robbers hit jewelry store TWO MEN escaped with a substantial quantity of jewelry Satur- day after pulling off an armed robbery at Trio Diamond and Gold Jewellery Inc. Iccated at 26-1501 Lonsdale Avenue. According to a North Vancouver RCMP spokesman, the armed robbery took place at approximately 4:20 p.m. Two males entered the building, which houses the Bank of Montreal at street level, either from 2 corcer access way or from the underground parking area. Due to the secluded iocation of the jewelry store, police have no witnesses other than the victim. The two suspects confronted the victim. One of the men pun- ched the victim in the head and then held him on the flour at gunpoint with a handgun while his partner scooped up rings, necklaces, gem stones and other jewelry. The two fled on foot. Police describe one suspect as being a white male in his mid- 30s, 5°9"’, 215 pounds, with brown curly hair just over the ears. He was wearing a light-colored sweatshirt, jeans and a black baseball cap with orange lettering. The second suspect is described as being a black male in his mid-30s, 6'2°°, 200 pounds, wearing dark clothing, possibly a track suit, with a dark baseball cap and sun glasses. North Vancouver RCMP are searching for witnesses who may have been in the area when the robbery took place. Information may be forwarded to the detachment’s serious crimes unit at 985-1311.
