The 13th annual World’s Worst Oil Paintings Dinner and Auction last week attracted a sell-out crowd to the inviting Robson Square Conference Centre, which was decked out in cctorful streamers and balloons. Hard to believe that it was 13 years ago thay those two nut-cases, Dr. Norman Watts and B.C. Paraplegic’s Bill Goodacre came up with the idea of collecting the most ghastly, awful paintings dur- ing their travels to flea markets, antique fairs and garage sales throughout the world. Together with the brainpower of MLA Doug Mowatt, UBC's Nor- man Young and PR man, Fin An- thony, they have gathered, over the years, a monumental collec- tion of terrible trash. Most of it was exhibited and auctioned off last Tuesday night, to folks tike West Van's Bert and Col- ieen Davies, and CBC-TV’s popu- lar “Talkabout’’ game show host and TV star Wayne Cox and his best gir!, Jeri Janz. Jeri’s the promotions lady at Capilano Mall, where the free San- ta photos are going like the proverbial hotcakes!... Siill retained in their permanent collection are two “important’’ pieces, both from VIP patrons of the World’s Worst. Hollywood's Phylis Diller did a self-portrait entitled Fangless, while Man In Motions’ Rick Hansen created a swirl of black and red oils entitled It’s the Wheel Thing!... Also on hand were Alf and Gloria Magnussen and their three daughiers, including Olympic skating champ, Karen, now Mrs. Tony Cella. Next Tuesday, Karen will be honored by the Rotary Club at a giant luncheon at the Hotel Van- couver with their Good Skate Award, the same award that was just presented co zillionzire, Donald Trump for his geod works UNCFUN Ade oUritey oP peter ede tT MOGs “Free Parking” 935 Marine Dr. North Yan $80-8561 A BELIEVING IN SANTA SHOULD BE FREE Free Photos With Santa November 18 until December 23 Santa Hours: Daily 10 am — 1 pm, 2-5 pin, 6-8 pm (late i 19 - Sunday, December 3, 1989 - North Shore News COCKTAILS CAVIAR last week...
