NV engineers suspended FOUR PROFESSIONAL engineers, including two from North Vancouver’s Tamm Tacy and Associates, were suspended from practice for varying periods following the nine-day disciplinary in- puiry into the Apri! 23, 1988 Metrotown Save-On-Foods roof col- lapse. Joe Harrison and Ian Tacy, both of Tamm Tacy and Associates, received 20-month and eight-month suspensions, respectively. Meanwhile, Tam London and Eric Man of MSS Engineering (Structural) Lid. weve suspended for eight months and four mon- ths, respectively. Both companies were the structural engineers on the Save-On project. All four suspensions were announced Friday by the Association of Professional Engineers of B.C. after a five-member panel found the engineers guilty of committing professional errors that led to the roof collapse. The panel found that Harrison inadequately designed the roof structure, failed to inspect or supervise construction of the rocf assembly and failed to direct and check the work of enginees-in- training Ken Kienzle. Tacy, the panel found, breached the engineers code of ethics by signing and upplying his professional seal to drawings that he had not prepared or which had not been prepared under his supervi- sion. Both engincers testified in the inquiry that the roof collapse and its attendant publicity had virtually destroyed the business of their North Vancouver company. Man and London were found guilty of failing to review the roof stracture properly. No appeals of the findings had been filed to press time. The engineers can file an appeal up to 42 days after receiving written reasons for judgment.
