fort commemorating the
200th anniversary of the
Royal Engineers with the
creation of an engraved
glass memento.

. Classic Heraldry Ltd. of North
Vancouver . presented a bowl
engraved with the Gurkha and
Royal Engineers ensignias and the
Signatures of the 24 participating
runners to Gurkha Cpt. Tony
Harking at the White Rock star-
ting point of the non-stop relay
run.

What began as a hobby for Ron
and Angie Hamilton, after in-

individual and a compact detector
operated by a search party.

transmitter-receiver, emits an elec-
trical signal which is recognized by
the locator, a compact transponder
containing a foil aerial and diode
which boosts the detector’s signal
and sends it back to the search

The lightweight locator works
witkout batteries and is good for a
200 to 300-foot range. The com-
pany is currently developing an
improved system with a 600-foot
reach.

With extensive leisure use of the
local mountains, the product is a
natural for the North Shore. Recco
detectors are currently being used
by North Shore Search and Rescue
servicing Seymour, Cypress and
Grouse mountains and search and
rescue teams servicing Whistler

and Blackcomb mountains.
