District to take look at RESIDENTS COM- PLAINTS over the ex- tension of a bus ‘route in the Seymour area have led to a Council decision to investigate alternative routes. | By DAWN BURKE | Residents from the Brockton Crescent, Beaufort Road area had appeared be- fore District of North Van- couver council as a delega- tion at a meeting July 8 to protest plans to extend the 211 Seymour bus voute, At a meeting Monday night, Council decided to investigate with B.C. Transit how soon bus service could be provided on a northern route and how much it would cost. Residents had told council previously they were not in favor of the extension due to traffic and financial con- cerns. To allow the extension to go through, council would have had to change ‘a steep road grading at an estimated cost of about $200,000. A report to council from the municipality's long range planner recommended in- vestigation of a northern route. Council approved the recommendation with a unanimous vote. The report to council urg- is 2 - Wednesday, July 24, 1985 - North Shore News council further busing ed consideration of the the following points: ® adoption of the Indian River Plan in November, 1979 which called for reloca- tion of the 211 bus route to Brockton Crescent © the proposed relocation of the route has been public knowledge since 1979 *® a northern route, while serving a portion of the In- dian River neighborhood that is not served presently by the 211 service, is depen- dent on further population expansion. The report of the planner said Council would probably have to pre-build Indian River Drive if service along a Northe:n route proved fea- sible. The recommendation to council also said: ‘‘Should this northern route prove impractical to implement in the foreseeable future, then the Brockton Crescent route be adopted as the best alter- native for efficient transit service.”” But council chose not to act on this recommendation. In discussing it, Ald. Joan Gadsby said, ‘‘l am not in favor of Brockton Crescent as an alternative." And council again heard from the public as Roger Barrett, a resident at 4069 Brockton Crescent, told council ‘‘We, as residents, say we do not want this bus service.”’ . 108 Bowser Avo. 985-9344 North Vancouver 50% ALL SUMMER CLOTHI and ACCESSORIES SALE ENDS JULY 34 ALL SALES South Granville Park Royci 2658 S.
