tackles
Fox run
failure

ORGANIZATIONAL
PROBLEMS | surroun-
ding the holding of
Terry Fox Runs which
lead to a cancellation of
the run this year were
addressed by West Van-
couver Municipal Coun-
cil Monday.

Director of Parks and
Recreation Frank Kurucz,
stated in a memo that com-
munication between the B.C.
Branch and the fiational
Branch of the Canadian
Cancer Society has been poor
and has resulted in organiz-
ing committees having dif-
ficulties in obtaining the
necessary forms, posters and
information for the Run.

Both the North and West
Vancouver Parks and
Recreation Departments co-
ordinate to organize the event
but this year, feeling that in
the past they have done the
bulk of the work, West Van
Parks and Recreation sug-
gested that North Van take
on the responsibility for
organizing. Though this was
agreed to, North Van was
unsuccessful in finding
volunteer leadership.

Ald. Doreen’ Blackburn
suggested that there are too
many runs being held in the
municipality and that may be
a contributing factor for
volunteers being in short
supply.

She suggested it might be
necessary to decide which
runs are more important so
that manpower and funding
can be more. effectively
apportioned.

Kuruze had indicated that
his department hoped that
the run would eventually be
completely taken over by
volunteers
