Mountie's shots
prompt NV probe

An North Vancouver
RCMP investigation is
underway into the actions of
a police officer who fired a
number of shots at a fleeing
vehicle.

“Anytime we (the RCMP)
use a revolver it is a serious
matter.” said Supenntendent
A.C. Wilson who heads the
North Van RCMP detach-
ment.

The incident occurred
Thursday night when several
police cars were involved in
a high speed chase of a vehi-
cle that failed to stop for a
police check.

The car was finally stop:
ped near the Second Nar
rows bridge and four people
were arrested

During the chase “several
discriminate shots were
fired by a member at the
fleeing vehicle.” an RCMP
spokesman said

A 12 year old) witness to
the incident said six shots

were fired by an RCMP of-
ficer who was standing out-
side his police car when the
fleeing car went out of con-
trol near Main Street.

He said at least one shot
hit the car. smashing glass.
before nt drove off again.

Wilson dechned to com-
ment on the incident until
the investigation is com-
pleted. probably in about a
weck
