Shawn Clark, aged 8, appear to be contemplating those possibilities while gazing into a shop window on Lonsdale Avenuc in North Vancouver. Tel. 985-2131 Beware of the ghosts and goblins 1 t Owls hoot their warning; ghosts moan their lament; witches cackle with pleasure; black cats dart across your path, and the leering grins of jack-o- lanterns seem to appear from every window. It's Hallowe’en.! Extra precautions are necessary by motorists to ensure the safety of all the little would-be ghosts, goblins and witches who are out on the prowl this special night in search of their Halloween loot. Since young masqueraders will have their thoughts on fun, not safety, drivers must be especially careful of youngsters darting across the start. Parents should take steps to make sure their children can see where they're going and be seen by motorists. The best time to trick or treat is while it is still light outside. If children must go out at night, they should wear light-coloured clothing, preferably outlined = in reflective tape, and carry a flashlight to help light their path as well as warn on- coming motorists. Getting the tnck-or-treaters to wear make-up instead of masks is another good idea. ight contacts: p.C3 In addition, parents should accompany children on their walk, or arrange for them to go in a group, with a clear understanding of which route they will take and when they will be expected home. Parents should also advise their youngsters to obey traffic signals and cross streets only at intersections. Adults can contribute to a safe, happy Halloween by making sure their entrances and sidewaiks are well lighted. The jack-o-lantern's grin may be a bright one, but it does little to light the way for anxious trick-or-treaters. In_ addition to traffic dangers, the North Van- couver Block Parents are asking their members to put well-lighted signs in their windows, only if they are going to answer the door to the trick-or-treaters. They are hoping as many people as possible will have the signs up.
