‘Squ Rod & Reel Club of North Vancouver has won the prestigious Conservation Club Trophy for 1980, presented by the B.C. Wildlife Federation. The trophy, presented at_ the federation’s convention each year, is sponsored by Curly Chittenden and Howard English, and is . — awarded © to the club that - contributes the most towards the aims of conservation. The Squaretailers, with a membership of only 12, installed a fish ladder on Hastings Creek (a tributary of Lynn Creek) in 1978, enabling fish to bypass a culvert at Hoskins Road and allowing them to return to the upper reaches of the creek to Spawn again. ‘ During the summer of 1978 - 2,500 steelhead fry were introduced and it is hoped that more steelhead will be planted this summer. Meanwhile, clean-up work on the creek continues. At the end of June this year club members, Fisheries Department and Wildlife Federation officials released 5,000 coho fry into the. stream at various locations. Bryan Allan, community advisor for the Salmonid Enhancement Program of the Fisheries Department, says the planting was a complete success and the fish immediately began to feed.
