Seniors win, but juniors defeated

North Shore Cricket

-Club’s Ist XI began
their new season
Saturday with = a
resounding win over
Aga Khan I. The
second XI, however,
was effectively

defeated by ANZA III.

In the semior match, North
Shore's opening bowlers,
Amba Sharma and Bill Sims.
prevented the Aga Khan
batsmen from = scoring very
fast. and Sims dismissed
Nizar Bardat when the score
was 17

Gary Colhns then took
over at Sharma’s end and
systematically worked his
way through the next five

batsmen, by which time the
score was 45 Vas Gunaratna
then relieved Sims and soon
had Tay Mohamed caught
wicket by Peter Potsam
Mohamed has a reputation
for powerful batting but he
only added one run to Aga
Khan's total They added a
further 20 runs while Collins
was completing his
destruction When the last
wicket fell, they had a total
of 66 runs, and Collins had
taken seven wickets for 15
runs

Despite losing their
captain. Larry White. when
there was only one run on
the board their opening
batsman. Peter Pisani when
the score was 13}. and a third
wicket, David Sims, when it
was still only 14.) North

Shore nevertheless had no
difficulty in reaching Aga
Khan's” total Excellent
batting by Bill Sims (29 not
out) and Vas Gunaratna (34
not out) dominated Aga
Khan's bowling When North
Shore needed only three
runs to win, Gunaratna
finished the match in style.
with a spectacular six over
the bowlers head, giving
North Shore a win by seven
wickets.

In the 2nd XI's) match
against ANZA that boot was
on the other foot

North Shore opened well
with Ted Harms scormg 19
before being run out on a
misjudged call by the
captain, Jim Mitchell
Matchell himsclf also batted

strongly and scored |

before Jim Barr bowled him
Barr in the meantime had
gota couple of quick wickets
at the other end, when John
Dew took two identcal
catches off identical balls

Kns Hira added five runs.
but then snicked the ball
onto his wicket Ken
Bradshaw scored a
promising 13, but was then
bowled by Barne Mastin
Martin Eccles had been
scormng fairly slowly at the
other end. but when he
began to hit out he sent a
catch straight to Barr, on the
long-on boundary. and
North Shore were all out for
64 runs

Dutta had taken 2 wickets
for 17? runs, Muatchell one for
1S ANZA won by 7 wickets
