The News has learned that five of those aroworks were returned to the police by Lisa Niven, a teacher at Westview Elementary School in) North Vancouver, Niven said she pur- chased the four sketches and one small watercolour by Smily from Corbet in 1995. At the time, Corbet) was working at the school as a spe- cial education aid. Niven paid between $40 and $120 each for the works of art. According to Niven, Corbet “proclaimed that he was an agent for (Smily) and was start- ing to sell some of her work along with some of his own.” Niven said that at the time, she had no reason to doubt that Corbet was acting on CHRISTIAN Cardei!
