22 — Friday, May 15, 1998 — North Shore News @ Association inks deal with Dutch c Andrew McCredie Sports Editor andrew@nsnews.com IN just its first year of operation the North Shore Soccer Development Assoc. has achieved a number of major goals, Earlier this year the soccer program provider secured a permanent home at 3590 Mounrain Highway. Prior to that the training centre was operated out of an office at the Capilano College Sportsplex. The NSSDA has also taken _over the operation of the North Van recreation commis- sion’s popular summer soccer clinics. ‘ ‘And just last week the asso- ciation signed a nwo-ycar deal with sporting goods manufac- turer Rucanor to be the associ- ation’s official equipment sup- plier. —.. “They (Rucanor) will meet all the equipment requirements to operate: the school,” said NSSDA -- chairman = Dan London of the deal. Londen said the association contacted five companies —- “the biggies” — with a spon- sorship proposal. For the Durch company Rucanor, the dming of thz pro- posal couidn’t have been bet- ter. Rueanor marketing co-ordi nator says the partnership with the NSSDA couldn't come ata better time for the company. “We are in the process of expanding and growing our soccer program,” Rucanor marketing coordinator Nathalie Gervais said. “We are planning to launch a new fine of high performance cquip- ment as well as team wear.” In addition to the deal with Rucanor, the NSSDA has also joined forces with North Vancouver sporting goods store Macey’s Sports. “We will offer_a special equipment package, through Maccy’s, for kids who need equipment,” London said. _ The NSSDA’s focus now, according to London, is on the Training Centre and running the summer programs.
