Besides a beaming Ruy Paes- Braga of the Four Seasons, there was the new GM of Le Meridien, Louis Daniel, who has just arrived from New Orleans and the Pan Pacific’s boss, the distinguished John Williams. Out of 20,000 hotels surveyed throughout the U.S., Mexico and Canada, 45 were chosen to receive this much-sought-after award! Ruy immediately pointed out, with justifiable pride, that of the 45, 10 were Four Seasons properties! In fact, the Vancouver Four Seasons has received the Five Diamond Award for 14 years in a row! Ruy was so ecstatic that the fol- lowing morning, he and his wife, Debbie, and their two sons, left for a cruise through the Panama Canal! Congratulations to all three hotels, the GMs and their staff. And to BCAA’s Dennis Sarkman for a job well done! eee Wonderful turn-out too, for the Johnnie Walker 170th birthday party at the Pan Pacific. Even the sandy-haired, Scot- tish-born managing director of John Walker & sons, lan Ross, flew in from the distillery head- quarters for the auspicious occa- sion, an occasion with some of the most discriminating drinkers on hand, like wine experts Sid and Joan Cross and John Levine, the BCLDB‘s Peter Choate, Maurice Walford, Bill Cross and Bruce Wilkinson and Laurie Dyer, the Queens Cross pub’s Ron Slinger, the Vancouver Club's Hans Kummer, the Media Club’s Geoff Snowball, and the Con.
