Tenants outraged over rent hi

TENANTS of a Lower Lonsdale apartment have sounded a
chorus of outrage over notification of rental increases rang-
ing up to 55 per cent delivered to them during the Christmas

holidays.

Rents at the 30-unit Centennial
Manor apartments, 3412 East First
St., will jump from around $400 to
over $600, effective April 1.

Marie Merce. a blind diabetic
with arthrins, states in a letter that
the rent increase will force her to
move out of an apartment that she
likes and a neighborhood that she
feels safe in.

Manor tenants New Year's Eve to
discuss their rent increase prob-
lems, said there is an immediate
need for North Shore tenants to
establish a wcnants rights associa-
tion to help fight inflated rent in-
creases and help find affordable
local rental accommodation.

Both North Vancouver City and
District have instituted temporary
moratoriums on the demolition of
rental buildings.
