GVER $3 million in grants is being
made available by the Ministry of
Environment to assist
municipalities in develcping
sewage treatment projects, En-
vironment Minister aad West Yan-
couver-Howe Sound MLA John
Reynolds anounced recently.

“These grants are designed to
supplement existing funding pro-
vided for municipal sewage treat-
ment facilities by the Ministry of
Municips! Affairs, Recreation and
Culture under the Revenuc Sharing
Act,’’ Reyaolds said.

To be eligible for supplemental
grant funding, a project must meet
the following criteria:
© it must have received approval

Sewage funds available

for a basic 50 per cent grant under
the Revenue Sharing Act;

© it must be required urgently and
have significant environmental
benefits;

the construction and operation
of the project without the sup-
plemental grant would raise local
sewage charges and tax rates ahove
$250 per household annually; and
® the project cost cannot be reduc-
ed by alternative technology.

The supplemental grant, when
combined with the 50 per cent
basic grant, will cover up to
three-quarters of the net capital
costs of municipal and regional!
sewage treatment projects.

Tourism Supervisory
Certificate Program

This eight-month program is offered on
Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning
in January. Some ‘openings are still
available. Students will be prepared for
provincial certification offered by the

Pacific Rim Institute of Tourism.
