Provincial Secretary James Cabot has also pro- claimed November as Diabetes Month through the province. Diabetes affects five per cent of the population. The prevalence of diabetes in North America has increased by more than 50 per cent be- tween 1965 and 1973. It is predicted that the number of North Americans with diabetes will double every 15 years. Diabetes is increasing in all ‘age groups but is highest in males and females under 45 years of age. Complications arising from diabetes is the third tanking cause of death behind cardiovascular Gisease and cancer. Diabetes is the third most common cause of new blindness in patients aged 20-65. Virtually all funds receiv- ed by the Canadian Diabetes Association come from be- quests, contributions by in- dividuals and service clubs, corporate contributions and special fund raising events organized by local branches and the division office of C.D.A. No significant gov- Help for parents of problem kids children are labelled ‘‘lazy, un- motivated, or dyslexic’’. Both research and experience show an average reading gain of 1 and a half years for eight-year-olds, and a gain of 2-5 years for ‘adults, in a 3-5 month period.
