Hl mailbox mi A7 - Wednesday, June 22, 1983 - North Shore News Pay honor due to Dr. Bayne Dear Editor: The letters in your June 12th edition from Mark Sager and Mary Kerr prompt me to write, since it was my privilege to work with Dr. Bayne through the early years (1970 onward) toward the objective of a Senior Centre building in West Vancouver. Dr. Bayne not only had the experience of his own many years, but did exten- sive research in Canada and the U.S.A. with respect to the facilities available to the retired and aging popula- tion. He was convinced that seniors working with and for seniors was the way to go --- note the hundreds of volunteer hours supporting the activities in our Senior Centre! Although Dr. Bayne lived to see his dream fulfilled in our beautiful Senior Centre Pension reform FROM PAGE A6 leaving even less cash for ex- pansion. Jobs, of course, are the real issue, and smaller firms are even now creating more than 70 percent of Canada's new employment. Without question, that would change if pension premiums doubl- ed. A man of outstanding ability, great determination, and tremendous energy until his health failed. There is no doubt in my mind that his ef- forts have given us a superior facility and much sooner than was likely in the nomnal course of development: I therefore hearily endorse Mary Kerr’s suggestion that our West Vancouver council name the building in his honour. _ A.T.
